Russia President Putin’s Speech Announcing Crimea is Part of Russia

Gepubliceerd op 18 mrt. 2014

Putin Addresses Russian Parliament, Signs Treaty to officially put Crimea on Russia’s Map.
Russia President Putin: West Crossed Line, Crimea’s Move similar to Ukraine’s Move from Soviet
(CBC) President Vladimir Putin fiercely defended Russia’s move to annex Crimea, saying Tuesday that the rights of ethnic Russians have been abused by the new Ukrainian government.
In a televised address to the nation, he said Crimea’s vote Sunday to join Russia was in line with international law, reflecting its right for self-determination.

To back the claim, he pointed to Kosovo’s independence bid from Serbia — supported by the West and opposed by Russia — and said that Crimea’s secession from Ukraine repeats Ukraine’s own secession from the Soviet Union in 1991.
He denied Western accusations that Russia invaded Crimea prior to the referendum, saying Russian troops were sent there in line with a treaty with Ukraine that allows Russia to have up to 25,000 troops at its Black Sea Fleet base in Crimea.

“The (Crimean) issue has a vital importance, a historic importance for all of us,” Putin said

Putin also said Russian relations with “brotherly” Ukrainians will always be important to Russia.

Earlier, Putin approved a draft bill for the annexation of Crimea, a key move in a flurry of steps to formally take over the Black Sea peninsula.

Russia’s Constitutional Court and the Kremlin-controlled parliament are expected to quickly endorse the move. Some lawmakers said that Crimea could be made part of Russia by the end of the week.

Crimea on Sunday voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and seek to join Russia. The hastily called vote was held two weeks after Russian troops had overtaken the Black Sea peninsula.

Russia slapped with sanctions

The West and Ukraine described the referendum, which was announced two weeks ago, as illegitimate.
The United States and the European Union on Monday announced asset freezes and other sanctions against Russian and Ukrainian officials involved in the Crimean crisis. President Barack Obama warned that more would come if Russia didn’t stop interfering in Ukraine.

France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Europe-1 radio Tuesday leaders of the Group of Eight world powers “decided to suspend Russia’s participation, and it is envisaged that all the other countries, the seven leading countries, will unite without Russia.”

The other seven members of the group had already suspended preparations for a G-8 summit that Russia is scheduled to host in June in Sochi.

Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, however, hailed Crimea’s vote to join Russia as a “happy event.” Gorbachev, in remarks carried Tuesday by online newspaper, said Crimea’s vote offered residents the freedom of choice and showed that “people really wanted to return to Russia.”

Gorbachev added that the referendum set an example for people in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine, who also should decide their fate.

The decree signed by Putin and posted on the official government website Tuesday morning is one of the steps to formalize the annexation of Crimea.

Putin has warned that he would be ready to use “all means” to protect Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine, and Russia has built up its forces alongside the border between the two countries, raising fears of an invasion.

New concerns in Ukraine

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said in a televised statement that Ukrainian law-enforcement agencies have gathered “convincing evidence of the participation of Russian special services in organizing unrest in the east of our country.”
Many in the ethnic Tatar minority in Crimea were wary of the referendum, fearing that Crimea’s break-off from Ukraine would set off violence against them.

Crimean Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Temirgaliyev seemed to confirm those fears, saying in remarks carried by the RIA Novosti news agency that the government would ask Tatars to “vacate” some of the lands they “illegally” occupy so authorities can use them for “social needs.”

The Russian State Duma, the lower chamber of parliament, on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning U.S. sanctions targeting Russian officials including members of the chamber. The chamber challenged President Barack Obama to extend the sanctions to all the 353 deputies who voted for Tuesday’s resolution, suggesting that being targeted was a badge of honour. Eighty-eight deputies left the house before the vote.

Putin’s senior foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov blasted the new sanctions in an interview with Russian news agencies. “We are fed up with these sanctions,” Ushakov said.

“They provoke only feelings of irony and sarcasm.”

‘Bloeiende democratie, revolutie?’

Willy Van Damme's Weblog

Over the next several days, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and the Polish Air Force will be conducting an off site bi-lateral training event that demonstrates the U.S.’s commitment to collective defense responsibilities under NATO’s objectives.

BUSTED: Leaked Phone Tape with EU’s Ashton reveals, Kiev Snipers hired by Maidan Leaders

Published On: Wed, Mar 5th, 2014

nsnbc : A leaked, recorded phone conversation between EU Foreign Affairs Chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian Foreign Minister, reveals that the snipers, who shot protesters and police in Kiev, have been hired by Maidan leaders. The Estonian Foreign Ministry confirmed the authenticity of the recording, brought to you here in nsnbc.

Ashton_Paet_EU_UkrainePart of the conversation between EU’s Catherine Ashton and Estonian Foreign MinisterUrmas Paet, about the shootings and killings in Kiev, ends wist Ashton saying “Gosh”, more precisely:

“There is now a stronger and stronger understanding that behind the snipers, it was not Yanukovich, but it was somebody from the new coalition”, said Foreign Minister Urmas Paet to Catherine Ashton, who relpied:

“I think we do want to investigate. I mean, I didn’t pick that up, that’s interesting. Gosh”.

The telephone call took place after the Estonian Foreign Minister’s visit to Kiev on 25 February, following the most heated battles after the Western-backed “opposition” broke the German, French and Polish brokered agreement between the government of President Victor Yanukovich and security forces in the Ukrainian capital. Subsequently, the new, self-appointed government illegitimately passed repressive legislation that caused the onset of the split between the western and eastern Ukraine.

The Estonian Foreign Minister also recalled a conversation with a doctor who treated those shot by snipers in Kiev. She said that both protesters and police were shot at by the same people. Paet stressed:

“And second, what was quite disturbing, this same Olga [Bogomolets] told as well that all the evidence shows that the people who were killed by snipers from both sides, among policemen and then people from the streets, that they were the same snipers killing people from both sides,

Ashton’s response was  “Well, yeah…that’s, that’s terrible.”, after which Paet continued:

“So that she then also showed me some photos she said that as a medical doctor, she can say that it is the same handwriting, the same type of bullets, and it’s really disturbing that now the new coalition, that they don’t want to investigate what exactly happened”.

The Russian TV channel RT reports that Olga Bogomolets was the main doctor of the Maidan mobile clinic when protests turned violent in Kiev. She treated the gravely injured and helped to organize their transportation to neighboring countries, who had expressed a willingness to treat those with severe wounds, reports RT.

The doctor reportedly blamed the wounds on and deaths on snipers from the start, which confirms initial statements from the Yanukovich government and pathologists who concluded that the police had not had weapons and that the munitions used were inconsistent with munitions used by the Ukrainian government.

The Estonian FM described the whole sniper issue as “disturbing” and added, “it already discredits from the very beginning” the new Ukrainian power.  His overall impressions of what he saw during his one-day trip to Kiev are “sad,” Paet said during the conversation. Peat stressed that the Ukrainian people don’t trust the Maidan leaders, with all the opposition politicians slated to join the new government “having dirty past.”

The file was reportedly uploaded to the web by officers of Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) loyal to ousted President Viktor Yanukovich, who hacked Paet’s and Ashton’s phones. 94 people were killed and another 900 injured during the standoff between police and protesters at Maidan Saquare in Kiev last month.

Conversation and Tape could be an “authentic” Plant: Some analysts, includingnsnbc’s Christof Lehmann, however, warn that although the tape, admittedly, is genuine, it could be willfully planted by those EU leaders who may have been involved in organizing the violent coup, thus blaming “radical members of the opposition” while covering up their own involvement. nsnbc will follow up on the developments.

Qara terug in regeringshanden

Treasurys Rally as Ukraine Crisis Escalates

Dank aan Tolec van ANDROMEDA COUNCIL:
Important –  Critical News Story
Update –
March 3, 2014
Here is how the perceived threat of war (Russia & Ukraine) can make investors ‘jumpy, manipulate financial markets… & thereby cause less desire for certain types of financial instruments… and greater desire & limited stabilization for another type, a government issued debt security.  I strongly suggest you read this article & what it implies:
By Carolyn Cui

U.S. Treasurys rallied Monday as the Ukraine crisis escalated over the weekend, unsettling global financial markets and triggering a flight-to-safety bid for safe-haven assets. During the weekend, Russian troops seized border posts in Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula and are making moves to significantly expand its forces from the region. The military action was a sharp escalation of Ukraine’s political crisis into a development that has broader implications for the world’s trade and economy, rocking global financial markets Monday. Investors rushed into perceived safe-haven assets such as Treasurys, while cutting their exposure to stocks. In early trade, benchmark 10-year notes rose 8/32 to yield 2.630%, according to Tradeweb. The 30-year bond added 14/32 to yield 3.569%. Bond yields move inversely to their prices. Some of the early gains were erased after the U.S. trading session started, as investors turned their attention to the latest signs showing the U.S. recovery was gaining traction. Personal consumption rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4% in January from a month earlier, according to the Commerce Department. That exceeded economists’ forecast for a 0.1% increase. On the inflation front, the price index for personal consumption expenditures remained unchanged at 1.2% year on year, which was slightly stronger than the market consensus for a modest pullback to 1.1%, according to the same report.
